New Patient Exam
A dental examination should not only focus on your teeth. A new patient exam with Dental on Kilmore involves so much more. We allow the time to learn what is important to you and create customised care based on your needs.
What does a new patient examination involve?
At a new patient examination we will:
- Check your jaw joint for any issues.
- Do a basic skin cancer check of your head and neck. We are looking at you from the same angle the sun is and can see areas you may not be able to see yourself.
- Examine the soft tissues of your mouth including lips, cheeks, tongue, floor of mouth, roof of mouth, throat.
- Check the lymph nodes around your head and neck that could be associated with dental infections.
- Probe your gums gently to diagnose any gum (periodontal) disease.
- Check your saliva, bite and teeth.
- Take a digital panoramic x-ray of your upper and lower jaw for a whole mouth overview.
- Take digital bite wing x-rays (of your teeth) to check for decay, defective fillings and bone levels around the teeth.
- Any additional x-rays as required.
- Examine existing dental treatment, paying attention to any at risk areas. For example, old amalgam (metal) fillings can weaken teeth and as a result fracture lines may develop.
- Take a digital colour scan (virtual model) of your teeth to monitor any at risk areas, previous dental work, dental wear such as erosion, abrasion and position of the teeth.
- Analyse your lifestyle for any factors that might be at higher risk for your dental health.
A new patient exam at Dental on Kilmore is $162. Priced individually this would be a value of $387.

What if I am a nervous patient?
We understand that going to the dentist can be a bit daunting. Our mouths are such a personal space. History of previous dental treatments can create a big barrier to people wanting dental treatment. We endeavour to do our best to make the experience as comfortable and relaxing as it can be for you. Feel free to let us know if you need anything specific to make your dental experience comfortable.

”Amazing friendly, professional, knowledgeable team from a very welcoming receptionist and a truly wonderful Dr Sally Woods and team who made me feel comfortable and gave me hope for someone who has avoided the dentist for years through fear and anxiety. The results for me have been life changing and I can’t say more about what a wonderful experience it’s been.”
